The Honorable Parren J. Mitchell
April 29, 1922 - May 28, 2007

"In the coming decade, no sacrifice on our part can be too great; no physical pain can be unbearable; no retreat should ever be considered. Future historians may well never mention our individual names, but they will be forced to speak to our collective spirit and collective struggle for justice, for decency, and for humanity."

VISION & MISSION
In 1996, a group of successful business owners committed to cultivating future leaders in the minority community formed the Parren J. Mitchell Foundation for Education and Talent Development. This small group, many of whom were mentored by Parren J. Mitchell, set out to establish an organization that would continue the congressman’s legacy of effective leadership that serves the greater good, and ensures equal opportunity for all. As a result, The Mitchell Foundation now embraces the responsibility of securing educational and business opportunities for deserving students, and increasing awareness of our country’s mandate and struggle for equal access. This mission is accomplished through three programmatic thrusts:

• The Mitchell Fellow’s Program – a comprehensive training and mentorship program that puts selected HBCU students on the path toward successful entrepreneurship and community leadership
The Mitchell Foundation Mentorship Program – provides financial support to minority high school, college and adult students across the country
• Endowed Chair’s Program – establishes endowed chairs in Public Policy and Business at Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
